To Focus, or Not to Focus

Most of what's on the internet is of no benefit to us. It's designed to rot our brains and steal our ability to focus.

As Jared Henderson puts it, "The internet is a hostile design environment."

Though there are new ways to get information and learn something, it doesn't mean it will be useful. And as our ability to hold attention is robbed, so is our ability to be reflective.

It's ironic to me that people behind the social platforms we use aren't allowing their kids to use them, because they are well aware of the detrimental effects of using them.

While we can't get rid of the internet, we can still create an environment where we can be focused and reflective. Because we are shaped by the environment we engage in daily.

That environment will be your own curated personal knowledge hub. A hub where you collect all the things you consume online. In there, you'll have your references and inspiration from what you've read or watched to reflect and write your thoughts about.

When you've a hub that's separated from the internet where you would be tempted to open YouTube (I'm guilty of it), or Instagram, or TikTok, you name it; you'll have more room to focus and not get your attention robbed.
