Clown Mode and Editor Mode

Creatives work in two different ways: clown mode and editor mode.

Clown mode is about having fun and exploring ideas without worrying about the outcome. It might feel like you're wasting your time, but you'll notice interesting findings when you look back. That's because your brain is free to play instead of trying to solve a problem.

Editor mode is the serious side. You shift your focus and work hard to turn an idea into something real that solves a specific problem.

The thing is, clown mode isn't taken as seriously as editor mode. It's often seen as goofing off, but the truth is, our best ideas rarely come from being in editor mode alone. If we only work in editor mode, we'll miss out on those aha moments that lead to breakthroughs.

The key is to balance both modes: play in clown mode to get ideas, then use editor mode to make them happen.
