Every creative work in human history combines pre-existing ideas and concepts, though you might not be aware of it. If you look deep enough, you'll notice patterns showing how all creative works are influenced by each other. And it's unfortunate that most people shy away from acknowledging what influences their thinking and work, thinking that it would label them as unoriginal. Especially creatives resist the idea of letting other people's work influence their own. But it's inevitable. Just as you were influenced by your parents as a kid, you can't escape the influence of others in your work. By resisting your influences, you're likely to lose yourself in the process. And even if you don't actively seek inspiration, the thoughts running through your mind are a culmination of the things you've been exposed to over the years.
