Writing from Abundance

Do you ever feel like you're stuck going in circles every time you try to create content?

It can be really tiring to always come up with new ideas from scratch, leaving you exhausted—or even making you give up.

But there's a trick to avoid that: build a collection of notes. It's not a huge secret, but great writers do it—they take notes all the time. This helps them avoid staring at a blank page with no clue where to start.

As the writer William Zinsser said, "Every article is strong in proportion to the surplus of details from which you can choose the few that will serve you best."

Think of it like going to a tailor to get a custom outfit. The tailor doesn't start with nothing—they show you different fabrics and designs, and you work together to create something new.

Writing works the same way. Instead of starting with nothing, you should start with a bunch of ideas, as David Perell says—a place of abundance.

When you do this, creating content becomes a breeze because you're starting with your notes. The more you build up your ideas, the easier it becomes to turn them into something great, like harvesting from a garden you've been growing.
